Welcome to my webpage. My name is Ernie Gooding, and I live in Randolph Co. WV. I hunt bear with plotts. For the most part, my dogs are heavy in the Ursus breeding. I decided to create this webpage to have a place to post some pics of the dogs, and throw in a huntin' story every now and then. Feel free to leave a post about the plotts, or about the hunt! Enjoy!

Gretchen and her pups

Here's a pic of Gretchen and her new litter, born a week ago Saturday. This was a repeat cross... with the sire being of Ursus/Nabek breeding (Ace). The first cross produced Brute, Blondie, and Peg.

4 County Corners Lil Bitty Plott

This dog is named Bitty. She is heavy in the Weems and Star Mtn Breeding... a very well built dog; 50 pounds of solid muscle. Bitty is a solid rig/start dog, with good track speed, plenty of mouth, staying power, grit, and a fair tree dog.As of this date, she is 4 1/2 years old. I got her from Rick Anderson in March of 2006.

Cheat Mtn. Ursus Gretchen

This is a picture taken of Gretchen as a yearling. She is out of Squirt x Amber. A littermate sister to Demon, Gretchen was also an early starter. As yearlings, her, Demon, and a few other dogs treed a 400 pound bear in Southern West Virginia in the early dog season. Gretchen has been a solid bear dog from day one, and has been a producer of fine young dogs (Brute, Blondie, Peg). To some it up in a few words, she is the product of excellent breeding. I recently had a litter of puppies out of the same cross that produced the dogs mentioned above. Gretchen was born in July of 2006.

Cheat Mtn Ursus Boone

This is the newest addition to my plott pack. His name is Boone. He is out of Demon (Gretchen's brother) and Ursus Hare. He is almost 9 months old. We recently put him on his first bear track. He made the intial tree, and helped re-tree the bear with 4-5 other young dogs. He has shown a ton of interest, with lots of natural treeing and track running ability. Boone should finish out to make a solid dog. I am counting on him to be a future contributor to my breeding program as well.

Boone was given to me by my friend Harrison Cummings. I hope to be able to repay the favor some day. At the time of the cross, Hare was owned by another friend, Steve Mohr, founder of the Ursus Plott Line.

Cheat Mtn. Ursus Blondie

This is Blondie. She is also out of the Ace x Gretchen cross. A litter mate to Brute, she is also a well built female (approx 45 pounds); plenty of speed, endurance, with a "chop mouth" on track and tree. As with Brute, she was a very early starting female... and continues to produce the meat! I am planning on getting a litter of pups out of her in the near future with a male of comparable breeding.

Cheat Mtn. Ursus Brute

This dog is out of the Ace x Gretchen cross. His name is Brute. He is a large plott, tipping the scales at around 70 pounds. He is very athletic, with all of the tools. Plenty of running gear, grit, staying power, and a solid tree dog. He is a very well mannered dog, and a solid dog all around. He will be on the market for stud very soon.
